The World Series of Poker will finally be heading North of the Border, Canada!  A WSOP circuit event will be held at the River Rock Casino and Resort in Richmond British Columbia from October 27 to November 7, 2012 during this 9th season.  WSOP Canada 2012 will be the first time that a WSOP circuit event will be held outside the United States.  This is some fantastic news for poker tournament enthusiasts after hearing the big news that the World Poker Tour (WPT) will be coming back to Canada.

With 12 events in 12 days the action will be hot and heavy.  Event 1 starts off with a $345 2 day event, and the series ends with Event 12 a $345 Omaha and Holdem 1 day mixed event.  Event #7 is the main event, a 5 day (3 day 1s) $1,650 buyin event starting on Friday November 2.  Players will start with 20,000 chips, with the structure remaining the same as other WSOP circuit main events.

All these WSOP Canada events are Ring events, so winners will take home a WSOP ring for their winning efforts.  Win the WSOP Canada main event, and you will also gain entry into the National Championship, where a gold bracelet will be on the line as well as $1,000,000 prize pool in which you will be freerolled into.  Next year’s 2013 WSOP National Championship will take place May 21-23, 2013 in New Orleans.

There will also be 2 online events yet to be scheduled as part of the WSOP Canada circuit. These online events will be ring events and will be played on PlayNow.com, the BC Lottery’s gaming site. For now only B.C. residents may play on PlayNow.com, but hopefully there will be an exception for these 2 wsop events so that all Canadians have a chance to win a WSOP ring online.

There is no word on satellites to WSOP Canada events yet.

More details to follow.

Toronto Casino and Ontario Online Casino https://www.canadapokernews.com/poker-in-canada/toronto-casino-and-ontario-online-casino/ https://www.canadapokernews.com/poker-in-canada/toronto-casino-and-ontario-online-casino/#comments Wed, 14 Mar 2012 02:42:57 +0000 admin https://www.canadapokernews.com/?p=669 The Ontario Lottery and Gaming commission (OLG) sure shook up Ontario citizens today, especially those in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Ontario Provincial Finance Minister Dwight Duncan announced that in co-ordination with the OLG, the GTA will have its own casino by 2017. OLG chair Paul Godfrey will be restructuring the OLG in a good way by improving how lottery and gaming are delivered in Ontario. This new enterprise will create around 2,300 net new industry jobs and about 4,000 jobs in the service sector.  The OLG will also plan to introduce online gambling including online poker much like the other provinces of the Canadian Poker Network Espace Jeux and PlayNow of Quebec and British Columbia.

No location has been announced yet but the usual list of potential locations for the Toronto Casino include; Canadian National Exhibition (CNE where current temporary casino is held), Woodbine Racetracks, Man-made island in Lake Ontario (Harbourfront), Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga.

In 5 years GTA poker players will no longer have to travel to Port Perry, Niagara Falls, Brantford, Sarnia, Orillia, Windsor, or Thousand Islands to play poker in Ontario.  With a megacity like Toronto with a casino, it will be just a matter of time before the biggest of online poker tournaments such as the WPT, WSOP, or even smaller ones such as the CPT, HPT or DSPT come to the Tdot for a mega Toronto Poker Tournament.

Casino New Brunswick Opens – 8 Poker Tables https://www.canadapokernews.com/poker-in-canada/casino-new-brunswick-opens-8-poker-tables/ https://www.canadapokernews.com/poker-in-canada/casino-new-brunswick-opens-8-poker-tables/#comments Thu, 06 May 2010 02:11:35 +0000 admin https://www.canadapokernews.com/?p=170 New Brunswick’s first casino opened in Moncton on Tuesday May 4, a big boost for this eastern province.  Casino New Brunswick, built near the Magnetic Hill tourist attraction will feature 500 slot machines, 22 table games and a poker room with eight tables.  But even after a day there is already controversy building within the poker room.  Players will only be allowed to speak in English, something that is common to most poker rooms outside of France and Quebec, due to unfair advantages that may come between two or more colluding players if others cannot understand what is spoken between the parties.

The $90-million New Brunswick gaming complex includes a casino, hotel, spa and convention centre and is expected to attract more than 600,000 visitors a year and estimated over $50 million profit.  In comparison the Nova Scotia casinos do between $80 to $100 million in profits.

Hopefully some poker tournament series get added to New Brunswick casino, especially after the suscess that the recent Four Aces tournament in Montreal had.  Perhaps NAPT New Brunswick?? (North American Poker Tour)
